East/West Dialogues

John Lanterman, a photographer living in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, will be exhibiting limited edition prints at the 510 Warren Street Gallery in Hudson, New York, from August 3 – September 1, 2024. The opening reception is Saturday, August 3 from 2-6 pm.

Show Inspiration

The exhibit is titled East West Dialogues. The show explores the interpretations, emotions, similarities and differences between the landscapes of Colorado, where John spent most of his life, and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, where he and his wife, along with their two dogs, now live.

The first inspiration for this show came from a curiosity of how residents and visitors in New England would view and respond to the landscapes of western Colorado. Initial ideas of the differences between the physical geographies quickly evolved to an appreciation of the similar themes and characteristics that exist in the two regions, at times overlapping and merging into each other.

John moved to the Berkshires in the Spring of 2022 after growing up and having his professional career in Colorado.  Prior to moving to the Berkshires, John and his wife spent 10 years in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  John showed his photographs at The Depot Gallery in Steamboat Springs, and when they decided to move to Massachusetts, he wondered how his black and white prints of the western Colorado landscape would be received in New England. This show, East West Dialogues, provides an opportunity to answer that question.

He looks forward to talking with you about his work in Colorado and the Berkshires.   The primary theme of his photographs is centered around regional landscapes, and how the built environment responds to the physical, cultural, and environmental elements of the area.  John’s work ranges from the grand vistas of the west, to the intimate landscapes of the Berkshires.  His motivation is to encourage viewers to slow down and see the beauty that surrounds us.
